Join vocalist Kathy Kilgo in discovering your voice. The class will explore breathing exercises and various genres of music, while learning how to sing with freedom and ease. The class is for adults and all songs will be sung as a group. It will be located at The Garfield Park Arts Center and cost $65 for 6 lessons. My Music Teaching Biography: Kathy Kilgo has always had a passion for music and the voice. This along with the education and experience she has acquired has given her the desire to perform and teach this beautiful art form. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kathy is a well-trained vocal artist who has been teaching and performing music for over 15 years. Kathy has taught as an adjunct professor of voice at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Kathy received her Master of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Southern California where she was granted a teaching assistantship. She has been the recipient of many vocal awards and competitions including regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Guild National Council auditions. She has had the opportunity to perform several operatic roles at both the collegiate and professional levels; including, Fiordiligi, in Cosi Fan Tutte, Mimi, in La Boheme, Lauretta, in Gianni Schicchi, Mere Marie, in Dialougues des Carmelites, and Mrs. Grose in the Turn of the Screw. She has performed in several operas at the Wildwood Opera Company including Mercedes in Carmen, and Patience in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience. Kathy has performed in numerous recitals, competitions and concerts throughout the United States. She is a member of the National Music Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda, the Music Teachers National Association, and the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference. She has worked with many brilliant conductors including the late Timothy Lindberg, Nicola Bowie, Michael Hampe, Sherrill Milnes, and David Itkin. Kathy has also had the opportunity of studying under many wonderful vocal coaches and instructors including Martha Antolik, Clark Dugger, Elizabeth Hynes, Christine Donahue, Alan Smith, and Elvia Pucinelli. This variety in teaching instruction has allowed her to more thoroughly understand teaching methods and the proper delivery of instruction.
